Using Different Versions Of Browsers

The Lexbe eDiscovery Platform (LEP) is a web-based application and is available from most modern browsers and multiple Operating Systems.  It is helpful to have more than one browser installed.  LEP supports the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome for the PC and Safari and Firefox for the Mac. It is important to upgrade to the most recent version of any of the supported browsers regularly.  The best security is usually in the most recent versions. Also, some of the most advanced functionality of LEP works only in the most recent versions of supported browsers.  We do not address support issues that involve non-supported browsers or versions. 

Browser Cache

When experiencing problems with a browser, the first thing to do is clear the browser's cache, cookies, and history. After clearing the cache and cookies, exit completely before attempting to access LEP again. See Clear Cache for more information.  

Try a Different Browser

If having a problem in a particular browser, try installing and using a different supported browser.  As an example, if using Internet Explorer on the PC, try installing Firefox or Chrome or vice-versa. If using Safari on the Mac, try installing Firefox or vice-versa. If the problem exists on only one of the browsers, it is likely due to some specific configuration of that browser, and not something involving the user's Internet connection or LEP servers.  

Occasionally browser versions become corrupt or partially corrupt.  In this case, uninstall and then re-install the browser.

How to determine version of web browser?

On Windows

Microsoft Internet Explorer


Open Internet Explorer and go to the Tools icon (Alt+X).  Select About Internet Explorer. The browser version will be displayed in the information screen.




Mozilla Firefox

Open Firefox.  From the menu bar click Help.  Select About Mozilla Firefox. The browser version will be displayed in the information screen.





Google Chrome

On the Toolbar of the browser, click on the icon marked with the red arrow as noted in the illustration.  From the drop down menu, click on About Google Chrome.






On the Mac

Apple Safari

Open Safari and click display Safari.  Select About Safari. The browser version will be displayed in the information screen.




Apple Firefox

Open Firefox.  Click display Firefox->About Firefox. The browser version will be displayed in the information screen.

Opening a Native File


PDFs are viewed using Adobe Acrobat reader (or another program for viewing PDFs inline on the web browser).  If the user wishes to open a native file (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) using Windows, the user may download to desktop or view inline with various software.  Mac Users may open native files by adjusting the settings on the computer.  See Viewing Native Files on a Mac for more information.

Google Chrome Support

For stability and security reasons, Google Chrome recently changed the default settings for NPAPI plugins (cross-platform plugin architecture) from enabled to disabled and will also phase out support for that type of plugin.
