Email Family Propagation

This technical note discusses the Propagate Coding feature which is accessed from the Document Viewer page.

This feature allows the user to consistently tag email families.  When Propagate Coding is selected, coding under the Disc tab for the current document will copy to all members of an email family (overwriting prior coding), but only for RESPONSIVE and PRIVILEGE.  Propagation does not apply to custom fields.

Benefits  What It Does   What It Does Not Do

Speed coding. Copies current values of fields under the Disc tab->Coding section (Responsive, Non-Responsive, etc.) to other family members. Copy to exact or near-duplicates.
Consistently code email families. Includes values saved and unsaved. Warn of overwriting of existing values.
Reduces validation delays at production.Overwrites inconsistent values in records of other family members.

Mark the Reviewed by Me tag.

Propagate Coding will ONLY expand a tag to an entire email family. It WILL NOT propagate coding to the next document.

General Rules

The propagation tool works in favor of Responsive and Privilege coding, therefore, there are some general rules/limitations.

Here is a general breakdown of the rules:

When Lexbe DOES Propagate:

1)      Marking a record "Responsive" always propagates to the whole family

2)      Marking a record "Privilege" always propagates to the whole family

3)      Marking a record "Work Product" always propagates to the whole family

When Lexbe DOES NOT Propagate:

1)      Coding a record "Not Specified" NEVER propagates to other records

2)      Coding a record "Non-Responsive" NEVER propagates to other records

3)      Coding a record "Needs Further Review" NEVER propagates to other records

4)      Clearing the "Privilege" flag NEVER propagates to other records

5)      To custom fields
