Integrated eDiscovery Messaging+

This technical note describes the process of collection, conversion and integration of individual messages into a Lexbe eDiscovery Platform (LEP) database.

Overview

Integrated eDiscovery Messaging+ is a Lexbe pre-processing litigation support service that converts raw messaging data from phone texts and internet messaging services into reviewable PDFs complete with metadata extraction.

Integrated eDiscovery Messaging+ supports Phone Texting (all major phone services) and the following internet messaging services:

-Apple iChat

-Cisco Jabber

-Facebook

-Google Hangouts

-LinkedIn

-Skype

-Slack

-Twitter

Conversations from various messaging services can be exported, however, these conversation files contain raw data and are not in a readily reviewable format.  Through the use of Lexbe’s Integrated eDiscovery Messaging+ Service, these raw data export files can be preprocessed into usable text and review-ready PDFs with corresponding loadfiles that can then be uploaded into the Lexbe eDiscovery Platform for review. Conversion is done as part by Lexbe’s Professional Services Department (billed hourly) and free estimates are available.

Features of Integrated eDiscovery Messaging+ Service

  • Major Messaging Formats Supported: .csv, .json, .db (This includes messages from LinkedIn, Twitter, Google Hangouts, Facebook, Skype, Slack, iChat and SMS text messages)

  • Reviewable PDFs Created: Our service creates a reviewable PDF of messages, per day, with sender, recipient, date, time, suitable for review.

  • Bates-Stampable:  Messages can be individually Bates-stamped.

  • Printable: Messages can be individually printed for Depos, motions, Trial exhibits, etc.

  • Comprehensive Review: Conversation strings among multiple messaging services can be displayed in Date order and filtered per participants.

  • Searchable:  Messages are fully searchable and can be reviewed, coded and produced as any other standard document type

Benefits of Integrated eDiscovery Messaging+ Service

  • Better Display of Phone Text Messages: Text messages are converted as one document per day and are displayed similar to an email format.  They can be sorted in date order from the Browse screen

  • Easier collection of Messages: Messages from Facebook, Google Hangouts and Skype can be exported by Lexbe, other litigation support staff, or the user, without the need for forensic examination.

  • Low Price: Our proprietary software is designed specifically to parse exported messaging fields and create imaged PDFs of the content eliminating the need for manual work and high hourly billables

  • Simple & Fast Transmission: Transmit your raw message export files to us by secure internet upload, via secure FTP or send them to us direct via courier on flash or USB drives for processing. When your job has been completed, we will return them to you by your preferred method.

Collection

The first step in the process is to collect the raw data files.  Below is a list of messaging services supported by Lexbe’s Integrated Messaging+ Service along with collection instructions/links.

Depending on the service type and case-specific needs, collection can be done by:

-A forensics examiner

-A company or organization IT dept

-A user may self collect

-Lexbe Professional Services staff can handle collection

Below is a chart that illustrates each messaging service, the export file type, who can collect the data, and who needs to convert the raw data file into .csv/.xlsx.

Upload into LEP Database

The last step of Lexbe’s Integrated Messaging+ Service is to upload the message documents into an LEP database for review.  These messages will be displayed as one PDF per day and will integrate with all other documents in the database allowing for a comprehensive review of all communications.
