Importing Lexbe Documents into Sanction

This technical note describes the process for how to export documents from the Lexbe eDiscovery Platform (LEP) and import them into LexisNexis’ Sanction trial presentation software.

Overview

To move documents from LEP to Sanction, complete the following steps (detailed below):

Identify documents to export within LEP

Export to LEP briefcase, download and unzip

Import into Sanction

Identify Documents for Export

In LEP you will need to identify the documents you wish to export. There are a number of ways to do this. One way is to mark the documents as 'Key Document' in the Doc Viewer. The ‘Key Document’ tag is located on the DISC tag within the General section.

A second way to do this is to use a custom tag. Create a new tag and title it something specific such as 'Export to Sanction'. Then tag all appropriate documents in the Doc Viewer. Custom tags are located on the DISC tab under the corresponding custom section name.

Export to Lexbe Briefcase

Once documents are tagged, the next step is to export them to Briefcase. This will gather all tagged documents and output a PDF and native version of each. To do this, navigate to the Browse screen and filter on the tag used (Key Document or custom tag). When isolated documents are displayed, select all and click Export to Briefcase from the left side menu bar under the Export section. Once the Briefcase has completed processing, go to Case>Download Briefcase and download the zip and extract on your local machine. For more information on Briefcases, see Briefcases help page.

If you have created timelines in Lexbe you may wish to also bring these into Sanction. To export Lexbe timelines, go to the timeline module (Analysis>Facts and Issues). Select the issue you wish to export and then click 'Export to Excel' under the Export section on the left side menu bar. Save to the Briefcase folder that you used for your documents.

Import into Sanction

After all documents are downloaded from LEP and QC’d, open the case in Sanction. Go to HOME>Import and then drag and drop the documents. A specific destination on the area tree is reserved per file format. I.e. any media files will be imported into the “Media” folder.

Sanction assigns a name to each exhibit and exhibit page, but the exhibit properties--including name, page number and Bates--can be adjusted after import. Files that are password protected, or corrupt, will not be imported and an error log will be provided. Any files that are duplicate will automatically display -dup after the filename.
