Production of MSG and Container Files
Supplemental Production of MSG and Other Container Files
Lexbe eDiscovery Platform (LEP) productions include non-privileged and non-redacted native files in the system, including native attachments to emails and natives expanded from Zip and other supported container files. However, the ORIGINAL sub-folder (as part of productions out of LEP) will not include email MSGs, Zips or other container files. This is done to ensure that native versions of privileged, work product or redacted documents nested inside of container files are not inadvertently produced.
Use the briefcase function to manually supplement a document production as follows:
Run the production from the Production Job page.
Click on the Production Title from the Browse page and apply filters to display only the file extension (e.g. MSG, Zip).
Select the results filtered by file extension from the current production and export to Briefcase. Save the Briefcase folder to the local desktop.
The download will generate a Briefcase containing the folders ORIGINALS and PDF. Rename the ORIGINALS sub-folder from the Briefcase with a different name, since there cannot be two sub-folders with the same name within the same parent folder. Move the ORIGINALS 02 sub-folder to the Production folder directory. If the PDF version of the file is not legible (e.g. placeholder), the same file under the ORIGINALS02 sub-folder can be opened in Microsoft Office or other native applications on a local computer and reviewed.
The Briefcase functionality is not designed for productions and does not contain the safeguards included in the production functionality. Producing container files can be risky and error prone. Producing email and other container files bypasses procedures designed to prevent inadvertent release of privileged documents.
Viewing Outlook Emails or Other Files Natively
It is possible to convert a collection of native emails (MSGs) to PDF in LEP.
There are many versions of Outlook. MSGs may not be fully supported in all versions of Outlook. Difficulty viewing MSGs in Outlook may be related to the version of Outlook, bugs or partially corrupted emails. LEP's ability to convert the emails successfully indicates the data is present.
