Keypad Encrypted Drives for Transferring ESI

This Technical Note details the keypad encrypted drives that Lexbe uses to transfer Electronically Stored Information (ESI).

Overview

Data security is of utmost importance to Lexbe and on request, ESI is shipped using keypad encrypted drives.  For data sizes up to 16 GBs, keypad flash drives are used. For data sizes over 16 GBs and up to 2 TBs, keypad hard drives are used.  The keypad drives require a PIN to be set at the time of set-up and do not rely on factory preset default PINs. Sending or transferring ESI without encryption is dangerous and presents the risk of allowing access to the data by an unintended party.  With keypad encryption, no one can access the stored data without entering the assigned PIN number.

Please note, Lexbe will charge $150 per drive used on a customer job, which is reimbursement for our actual costs.

Transmitting PIN

The PIN for the keypad encrypted drive is provided separately for security measures.  It is emailed to the person(s) requesting the data transfer and it is their responsibility to distribute as appropriate.  Please note, after several failed attempts at inputting the correct PIN, the drive will lock and cannot be accessed. If this happens please contact Lexbe Professional Services.
